Everyone living on Redlands Coast has access to a kerbside wheelie bin collection service provided by Redland City Council.
However, the needs of households and budgets can change so it might be time to check you have the right bins for your home and are getting the best value for your money.
To support households to reduce waste, to recycle well and to maintain a cost-effective recycling service, Council offers a flexible ‘bin menu’ where residents can save money and reduce waste to landfill by getting the right bin set for their home.
The kerbside bin system includes separate 140-litre wheelie bins for waste and recycling, 240-litre wheelie bins each for waste, recycling and garden organics (mainland residents) and 340-litre wheelie bins for recycling.
Some options to get a better bin bundle:
- Get a green bin at no extra cost (mainland residents only) – Offset the cost of a new household green waste bin by downsizing to a 140-litre red-lid general waste bin when you order. The benefits include: no establishment fee, fortnightly kerbside collections and valuable garden waste is kept out of landfill. In fact, you’re saving more than $19 a year.
- Get extra recycling space – Upsize your recycling bin from a 240-litre to a 340-litre bin for a one-off $30 establishment fee (to cover the bin, delivery and administration costs) and no additional ongoing costs to your rates. That’s an extra 2600 litres of recycling space each year. Plus, if you get a green waste bin and downsize your general waste bin, there is no establishment fee to upsize your recycling bin when you place the order at the same time.
- Save money and be rewarded for not generating waste – If you are reducing your waste to landfill and not filling your standard 240-litre general waste bin each week, why not downsize to a 140-litre waste bin and save up to $91 a year on your rates.
