Big changes to aged care in Australia commenced on 1 November 2025, with the introduction of the new Support at Home program. But families and loved ones, already struggling to manage health, mobility, or caring responsibilities, are overwhelmed by new rules, new terminology, new contributions, a complicated application process, and daunted by the much-publicised long waitlists.

What is Support at Home?
Support at Home is the Australian Government’s new in-home aged care program. It is designed to be simpler, more flexible, and focused on helping older Australians remain safe, independent, and supported at home for longer. The new Support at Home program has been rolled out to replace the previous Home Care Package system.

What can your funding cover?
The program continues to fund essential services, including nursing, personal care, domestic assistance, meal preparation, transport, social support, and access to allied health services, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and podiatry. The updated model offers additional funding for Assistive Technology (equipment), Home Maintenance & Modifications, Restorative Care, and End-of-Life support.

What about co-contributions?
Depending on your circumstances, you may be asked to contribute toward your care. We explain clearly what applies to you, help set up a simple budget, and ensure you’re only paying what’s required – no confusion, no surprises.

How do I apply for Support at Home?
My Aged Care is the government agency managing this program. We can help you prepare for the My Aged Care call, explain your options, and guide you through the process so you feel supported every step of the way.

What about the long waiting periods?
The Government has announced that more packages will be released this quarter. While this is good news, acting early helps avoid delays and ensures you’re ready to access the right support as soon as possible.
