About Southern Districts Spartans Basketball
Southern Districts Spartans Basketball is a community-based basketball association with two locations, offering opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to get involved in the game.
Carina Based at Rowland Cowan Stadium in Carina, the Spartans provide clear pathways from introductory basketball through to representative and senior competitions, with a focus on positive experiences, skill development and enjoyment of the sport.
Wakerley (Outdoor Courts) The outdoor courts at Wakerley currently support netball and pickleball, providing a relaxed and accessible space for the local community to be active and connected. Basketball programming is planned for the future, with the courts set to become another entry point into the broader Spartans community as opportunities expand. To book a court please contact us.
Junior Basketball & Entry Programs
The Spartans run junior domestic competitions and beginner programs designed for children who are new to basketball, as well as those wanting to play regularly in a local, structured environment. These programs focus on learning the game, building confidence and enjoying basketball as part of a team.
Development & Representative Pathways
For players looking to progress, the association offers development programs and representative teams across multiple age groups. These pathways support athletes who want to improve their skills, compete at a higher level and explore long-term involvement in basketball.
Inclusive & Community Programs
Southern Districts Spartans are committed to making basketball accessible to everyone. Programs include neurodiverse basketball, wheelchair basketball, school partnerships and community engagement initiatives that encourage participation across different abilities and backgrounds.
Senior & Elite Basketball
The association also supports senior competitions and elite programs, including teams competing in leagues such as NBL1 North and the Queensland State League, providing opportunities for players, coaches and officials at advanced levels of the sport.
