About Joan Pease – Member for Lytton
Joan has lived in Lytton for over thirty years with her husband and their two children. While raising her family she was a committed volunteer, actively involved in Nursing Mothers, the Wynnum BUGS Rugby Club, Bulimba Hockey and various local schools and kindergartens. At the same time, she built a career in Adult Education in both the corporate and community sector and also ran a small business in the heart of her electorate.
Through her strong community focus and previous experience Joan recognises the inter-connectedness of social and political life. She is a keen supporter of local groups as they work hard to bring people together in the community.
She is currently the patron of the Wynnum Manly Historical Association, the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, the Bayside Woodturners and Woodcrafters Club, the Wynnum Choral Society and the Bayside Eastern District Orchid Society.
She is also a passionate advocate for her community. Improving health services, protecting the environment and establishing support for victims of domestic violence are issues close to her heart.
Her passion for shaping policy that promotes access and equity is further demonstrated through her appointment to the Health and Environment Committee.
Joan’s commitment and capacity is recognised by her Government, evidenced by her current appointment as the Senior Government Whip.
Joan is passionate about equality of opportunity for all and sees the policy-making process of the Labor movement as a vehicle for the progressive advancement of our nation.
