FROM JANELLE BOSTOCK, PRECINCT COORDINATOR, MANLY HARBOUR VILLAGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

On Friday, September 1, the Manly Harbour Village Chamber of Commerce hosted its last Business Breakfast for 2023, attended by close to 40 participants at Manly Harbour Boat Club. These breakfast events provide valuable business networking opportunities and the necessary business tools and strategies to assist with quality improvement processes within their business.

Our guest speaker, Velia Nicholls, from Courage to Speak, provided a thought-provoking, highly energised interactive presentation through shared stories, laughter and learning on “The Customer Journey”. Today’s customer is diabolical! They are demanding. They have little trust, no patience and a very low expectation of receiving quality customer service. Customer service is about the ability to build relationships, make connections and build trust. But is building this connection even possible in today’s world? Absolutely! Attendees left the session with a fresh approach and a renewed energy to build those customer connections.

Terri Cooper, Business Support Manager, Business Chamber Queensland, announced they have just launched the Free Digital Skills Training Hub that is there to help businesses stay relevant through ongoing learning with 25,000 + courses to choose from. Eleanor Crosby, Industry Workforce Advisor, provided an update on the Queensland Government program that supports small and medium enterprises to address workforce challenges, diversify their workforces, and support workforce growth. As part of this initiative, grants are available to assist in this area. Please get in touch if you would like further information.

Our MC, Carlee Hay, kept the morning flowing and on time, with all attendees managing to get out of the door and back to the office by 8.30am. Thank you to all in attendance and to those who support the Business Breakfast Series. Feedback is unanimous to continue, so keep an eye out for the 2024 dates to lock into your diary.

The next scheduled meeting is our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, October 10, at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Please reach out if you wish to attend.
