About the event

You are invited to attend the Bayside DV Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday 6 May and stand with our community against domestic and family violence. This vigil is about standing shoulder to shoulder – supporting those who have suffered and sending a clear message that violence has no place here.

In Australia, 1 in 4 women have experienced violence by an intimate partner since the age of 15. Every candle represents a life, a story, and a call to action. I urge all Baysiders to come along, reflect, and show their support – because real change happens when communities unite and refuse to stay silent.

About the host
Hi, I'm Joan Pease MP.

The State Member for Lytton.
"I am deeply passionate about Standing up for the Bayside."
I have lived in Lytton for over thirty years with my husband and our two children.

While raising my family, I was a committed volunteer, actively involved in Nursing Mothers, the Wynnum BUGS Rugby Club, Bulimba Hockey and various local schools and kindergartens.

At the same time, I built a career in Adult Education in both the corporate and community sector and also ran a small business in the heart of my electorate.

Through my strong community focus and previous experience, I recognise the interconnectedness of social and political life. I am a keen supporter of local groups as they work hard to bring people together in the community.

I am currently the patron of the Wynnum Manly Historical Association, the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, the Bayside Woodturners and Woodcrafters Club, the Wynnum Choral Society and the Bayside Eastern District Orchid Society.

I am deeply passionate about advocating for the Bayside. Improving health services, protecting the environment and establishing support for victims of domestic violence are issues close to my heart.
