About the event

The Book Plate Art Project – Redlands is an art project which is designed to strengthen connections between artists, Redland City Council Libraries and the community.
Redlands library visitors can discover 400 small artworks placed inside library books throughout June 2025. Discover and keep small artworks by established artists including Michael Zavros, Delvene Cockatoo-Collins and Renata Buziak, as well as photographer Kara Rosenlund and emerging artists Mahala Burns, and Budla Malu (Mikayla Queary & Jhavon Auda).

Registration is now open for community contributions to the project too. Emerging and established artists and creatives can volunteer to take part and share their art inside library books by registering at www.hometurfart.com. It’s free to take part. When you register, we’ll send you more information on the project and how you can get involved. Follow our social media accounts to see commissioned artist and community contributions on Instagram @hometurf.art and Facebook @hometurfart.

There will also be a free Book Plate Art Workshop for young people at Redland Art Gallery on 11 July, 2025. Please see the Gallery website for more information and registration details in the coming weeks.

Let’s work together to create something special for the Redlands Coast community. The Book Plate Art Project is presented by Home Turf Art and proudly supported by a RADF grant. The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Redland City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

About the host
Leanne McIntyre is a creative producer and art curator, Home Turf Art. She presents the work of Australian artists in surprising places. Leanne’s art projects often focus on socially engaged art involving community events, artist commissions, workshops and exhibitions.

In 2024 Leanne conceived and delivered the Bookplate Art Project that commissioned 12 artists and invited the wider community to create artworks to be hidden in books at Brisbane Libraries to be discovered by readers inspired by books and stories. In 2021, Leanne presented the Home Turf art exhibition featuring 20 Brisbane artists. Leanne was a recipient of two grants from the BCC Creative Sparks Grant Program for these two projects.

In 2025, Leanne will produce and curate the Book Plate Art Project for Redland City Council Libraries and Gold Coast Libraries funded by a RADF grant and Arts Development Program Grant.

Previously, Leanne co-curated exhibitions for Flying Arts Alliance, ‘Curators in Space’, ‘Uncanny’ (2013-14) and ‘Reminiscence: Celebrating 100 years of Australian Visionary Judith Wright’ (2015). ‘Reminiscence’ went on to tour regional Queensland. She has also worked in various commercial and public galleries. She holds an Honours Degree, first-class in Art History from the University of Queensland and has an interest in First Nations and contemporary Australian art.
