After 35 years of service, David Farley hands the baton to the new Manly Harbour Village Chamber of Commerce President, Peta Prestidge.
Over the last 40 years, the once sleepy seaside village of Manly has transformed from one of Brisbane’s best kept secrets to a world-class harbourside precinct filled with thriving businesses and an enviable food and wine scene. David Farley, President of the Chamber for 35 years, has played a critical role in overseeing this transformation. But at the recent Annual General Meeting, David announced his retirement from the role as Chamber President. Taking over the role is Peta Prestidge, General Manager of The Consortium Group, who are behind some of the area’s most popular restaurants including The Arsonist and Tide on the Jetty.
“At 78 years old, it’s time to encourage younger hands to step up,” said David. “Peta will do a great job and keep the momentum going.”
Having been heavily involved in the growth of Manly for some time, Peta is the ideal candidate to fill what are undeniably big boots. She is a passionate advocate for the local area and its businesses.
“As soon as I reach Cambridge Parade, see the harbour and the hive of activity around the village I instantly relax and take a breath –
I love everything about the look and feel of the place,” Peta said.
“I don’t think our community realises the range of tasks and activities the Chamber is involved with, and I’d love to see new and existing members get more involved – working together for the bigger picture I think is key.”
Over the years the Chamber has progressed a wide range of initiatives, including annual community events such as Santa’s Alley, the Billy Cart Derby and the much-loved Halloween Street Party. The Chamber is also responsible for facilitation of streetscaping and outdoor furniture upgrades, bringing craft and farmers markets to the area, and hosting regular social, information and educational events for its members. The Chamber now has a focus on place-making and destination marketing for the Manly Harbour Village and harbourside precinct. With the recent announcement of Manly as the 2032 Olympic sailing venue, there are many exciting new initiatives on the horizon.
The Chamber expresses its gratitude to David Farley for his invested time, knowledge and pure passion for the Manly Harbour Village business community, and warmly welcomes Peta Prestidge in her new role.
During the AGM, Juliann Star, owner of Ebb+Flow Boutique and a local trader for nearly 20 years, was also welcomed to the Chamber committee in the role of Trader Representative. The Chamber was also pleased to reinstate long-serving committee members Steve Rickertt, Peter Farley, Tammy Vitale, Ewan Blair, Sandy McDonald, and Lauren Micale.
