Local personality profile - The Community Leader and Real Estate New and Views

Name: Steven Singh.

Suburb: Wynnum West.

Where do you work? I am an Associate at DBL Solicitors in Bay Terrace, Wynnum.

Do you have any fun or interesting stories about your job? I was in court once, when a self-represented defendant fronted regarding his latest ‘driving while disqualified’ charge. Confused and exasperated as to why he was in court again, he exclaimed, “Well judge, there wouldn’t be a problem if you just gave me my licence back!” Not the best argument.

What’s your favourite local dine-in and take-away? The Pera Palace Ottoman in Edith Street, Wynnum. I love the décor, service and the Mezze menu. The Baba Ganoush is perfectly at home in my mouth!

What would you recommend as a great local activity? Biking the esplanade between Wynnum Wading Pool and the park at Lota. Or pedal a bit further to Lota Creek Boardwalk. It’s the best type of relaxation on two wheels.

What’s the last book you read? The Long Road to the Deep North, by Richard Flanagan. A harrowing tale of an Aussie doctor haunted by his time as a prisoner of war, an affair, and his own shortcomings. Beautifully written by a true Australian literary craftsman.

What’s the last TV show or movie you watched? Black Bag, with Michael Fassbender as the lead. A slick, spy thriller, with a buttoned-down agent investigating his own wife. Never a good idea!

Is there anything you’d like to see happen in the local area? More live gigs, if possible. The Wynnum Fringe Festival has me hungry for more. I managed to see Theo Katzman (of Vulfpeck) at the spiegeltent venue in Bay Terrace. That tent can stay.

Is there a local business, club or community group you’d like to give a shout-out to? Mad Mile café. Dragan serves the best coffee, and the service can turn any frown upside down.
