Bayside families are being invited to celebrate a century of endless swims and friendly games of Marco Polo this month, with the Manly Pool marking its 100th birthday with a free community event this September.
The much-loved swimming spot will host its centenary celebration on September 26, bringing together locals past and present for a day of entertainment, fun and nostalgia.
The celebration will include a 1950s-themed aqua aerobics class, vintage swimwear fashion parade, legends swim race, historical displays, live local music, food trucks and the chance for visitors to take a swim down memory lane and share their own photos and memories from the past 100 years.
The pool officially opened September 25, 1926, with around 1000 people gathering to celebrate what was considered one of Australia’s finest seawater pools at the time. The grand opening was a major occasion, with many men photographed in suits and top hats.
There were more than 197,000 visits in the past financial year alone, so it’s clear Manly Pool is as popular as ever.
While the original seawater baths have evolved with a heated 25-metre pool, waterslide, splash areas and learn-to-swim facilities, the pool remains a favourite destination for families.
Last summer, 31,883 visitors enjoyed the Manly Pool $2 Summer Dips program, which will return this year.
