Making new friends: Prep students Carmiyah, Aston and Avery.

FROM WYNNUM WEST STATE SCHOOL

After a summer school holiday that lasted longer than expected, students at Wynnum West State School appeared to transition into the new school year with ease.

Although the morning drop-off procedures looked a little different to previous years, the first day back for students was a time to connect with each other and establish friendships old and new.

Prep classrooms were filled with anxious and eager students who were ready to learn. When it was time to say goodbye, tissues were handed out to those students and parents who found it hard to separate as the children settled into their new school routine.

Principal Ben Turner said it was rewarding to finally welcome the school community back again and to see all the Prep students together for the first time. Wynnum West recognises that transitioning to school is a time of huge change, presenting new and exciting opportunities for children to experience. Mr Turner said that transition to school for Prep children is a year-long process.

“We work collaboratively with many local Early Childhood Education Centres since the start of each school year getting Kindy children ready for school in order to make the transition to school experience a seamless and exciting one for our Prep children,” said Principal Turner.

“It was wonderful to see everyone buzzing with excitement and we are very much looking forward to a magnificent and fulfilling year ahead.”
