FROM SAILABILITY BAYSIDE

The sailing season commenced at Darling Point Sailing Squadron with a Blessing of the Fleet ceremony on Sunday September 12.

Commodore Peter Robba noted that the club had now been operating in the Wynnum Manly area for almost 100 years. Many families from the area had started their sailing careers here and that tradition continues with the younger generation today keeping the club strong and viable.

As a prelude to the event, the junior members of the club decorated their boats and paraded in the harbour for prizes, with some showing their dancing skills to impress the judges. DPSS Patron, Bruce Pattison, presented a new Australian flag to the club, on behalf of Ross Vasta MP.

The premises located on Norfolk Point at the entrance to Manly Harbour is also home to many other sailing groups such as Sailability Bayside, the Multihull Yacht Club of Qld and the Pandanus Paddle Club, who were all represented at the ceremony.

Commodore Peter acknowledged that the numbers present indicated the huge community support for the venue, and how vital it is to encourage the younger generation into the sport of sailing.
