What do you get if you blend early rock’n’roll, hillbilly, country, rhythm and blues, western swing and boogie woogie with a really big beat? Rockabilly.
Stir in a lavish helping of retro costumes and hairstyles, classic and hot rod cars, vintage motorbikes and a knockout License Plate Art Show – you get a weekend packed with nostalgia and excitement.
Add food outlets, a licensed bar, retro clothes stalls and a special zone for the littlies then you’re talking GreazeFest – a two-day Kustom Kulture Festival that will take you to the 1950s in a whirl of entertainment and memories.
Love the chrome and colour of vintage cars and motorcycles? You’ll revel in the display of American and Australian pre-1980s classics that will compete for GreazeFest trophies. Frock fanatics will bliss out at the retro clothes stalls and the GreazeFest Pinup Party, featuring hairstyles and fashions from the 1940s through to the 1970s. And while you’re frocked up, join in the photo calls that will try for the highest number of pinups captured in a single photo.
And once you’re in the sweetheart necklines, rope petticoats and dancing shoes why not head onto the dance floor and join the action? With more than 20 performers and bands the weekend promises to be a musical heaven for folk who like to move with the beat – and it’s not just the oldies who are hooked on swing.
“Rockabilly was the punk rock of the 1950s, where everything started – and that’s the live energy we recreate at GreazeFest,” says Lori Lee, GreazeFest Director. “It’s a celebration that draws together different groups – hotrod, pinup, music, art, fashion – who live and breathe the Kustom Kulture lifestyle, because it’s the only place you’ll find it. And for the public, it’s a wonderful, vibrant, weekend escape.”
GreazeFest is scheduled for Friday August 2 to Sunday August 4 at Redland Showgrounds.
