What’s your name? Hello! My name is Ruby.
Suburb: I am from Wynnum.
How long have you lived in Wynnum? I’ve been living the good life in Wynnum since I was just eight weeks old! I was a teeny 650 grams when I arrived – basically a pocket-sized princess. Now I’m all grown up (well, 3kg grown) and proudly patrol my street, soak up the sea breeze, and act like a local celeb.
What is your favourite local walk? The walk to Elanora Small Dog Park is everything. As soon as we get close, I start doing little hops – I know where we’re going! The second the gate opens, I’m off like a rocket. So many smells, sniffs, and squeals of delight. I’ve got a solid group of doggo mates there, and we take playtime very seriously.
What is your most treasured toy? My squeaky toy from Petbarn in Wynnum is my ride-or-die. It squeaks just the way I like it – loud and dramatic. I carry it around like a trophy, and yes, I’ve been known to fall asleep with it under my paw. A girl’s gotta protect her valuables!
What is your favourite food? Easy. A woofacino with bacon and eggs from Frenchies Café. It’s basically brunch with Mum and Dad, and I am so here for it. There’s something magical about that foamy cup and the crispy bacon bits that fall my way. It’s the ultimate treat.
What’s your worst habit? Chewing the zippers off cushions. Don’t ask me why – it’s just something I must do. Mum says it’s destructive, I say it’s modern textile art.
What’s your favourite local hangout? Frenchies Café (bacon, duh) and Elanora Small Dog Park are my go-tos. But honestly? My true happy place is the car. I insist on sitting right in the middle of Mum and Dad, up on the console, so I can see everything. I supervise traffic, offer unsolicited advice at roundabouts, and occasionally sneak a kiss on the cheek while they’re driving. I’m basically the CEO of the road trip.
Who is your best doggo friend? Ralphie the ‘moodle’ – he’s my bestie and chaos twin. We match each other’s energy perfectly. But I can’t forget my big sister Maya. She’s a cat and keeps her cool most of the time, but we’ve got a quiet bond (even if she pretends, I’m annoying).
Any funny or embarrassing stories you’d like to share? I genuinely forget I’m a dog. I need a pillow, I need a blanket, and I will absolutely fuss until they’re just right. I once refused to sleep on a bed because the doona wasn’t fluffed. Call me picky, but I like things comfortable.
What do people love most about you? I’m small, soft, and irresistibly snuggly. People say I bring calm and comfort, and I love nothing more than curling up next to someone who needs a cuddle. Also, I’m very photogenic. I mean, just look at this face!
Ruby’s favourite charity is The Pawprint Foundation, and we have made a $50 donation on her behalf. “Every furry friend deserves love, safety, and the occasional brunch date,” says Ruby.
