FROM CYC
There is something special about the sound of the sea, and no better way to soak it in than being on our beautiful bay with a boat and a breeze! While Australian Sailing supports successful Olympic and world champion sailors proudly bearing the green and gold, they also service more than 360 clubs nationwide. In the Redlands, we have one right on our doorstep. Established in 1904, Cleveland Yacht Club (CYC) has a proud history and a bright future. The family-friendly club will kick off its summer sailing season on Sunday, September 10.
CYC welcomes members, volunteers and visitors to their clubhouse next to The Lighthouse restaurant at the historic Cleveland Point, with direct ramp access to Moreton Bay.
The club’s website hosts its sailing calendar, with racing on Sundays between September and April for both monohull dinghies and catamarans.
There are also ‘destination sails’, with the group heading out for a social sail and BBQ.
Training is available for anyone learning to sail, with lessons generally held on Sunday mornings. The Summer Season launch will also see the christening of a new safety boat, with a pre-season ‘shake-out’ and boat maintenance day (visitors welcome) on Saturday, September 9, to ensure everything is ship-shape! Please email the club ([email protected]) if you’re interested in participating.
Sailing is a sport suitable for all ages and all abilities, with results taking into account different classes of boats and experience. It’s environmentally sustainable, with no noise or other emissions into our beautiful bay, and a great way to experience wildlife such as turtles, fish, birds and dolphins. Whether your vibe is social or competitive, CYC provides a welcoming atmosphere and a stunning view to enjoy a refreshing drink after a day on the bay. To find out more, visit cyc.asn.au, email [email protected] or drop in on Sundays.
