COUNCILLOR FOR WYNNUM MANLY WARD

Australia Day Breakfast

I invite all Wynnum Manly residents to my free Australia Day Breakfast on Thursday, 26 January, 2023, from 7am until 12 noon at George Clayton Park, Manly.

There will be rides, shows, a sausage sizzle and others treats available. There will also be a children’s colouring competition and the announcement of the Scope Australia Day Awards.

This event wouldn’t be possible without help from many of our dedicated community groups; Port of Brisbane Rotary, Rotary Club of Wynnum and Manly, Wynnum Manly Leagues Club, Wynnum RSL, Scope Club of Wynnum, Quota Club of Wynnum, Wynnum Red Cross, Wynnum Scouts, Wynnum Vikings Australian Rules Club and the Bay Belles CWA Group.

Sadly, this event has been cancelled due to COVID-19 for the past two years. I look forward to seeing everyone when it returns in 2023.

E-Scooters

The Bayside E-Scooter trial ran from 1 December 2021 and ended 30 November 2022. Almost 54,000 e-scooters trips were taken during this period, largely along the waterfront but also from train stations and more broadly across residential areas of Wynnum Manly.

Given its popularity, Brisbane City Council administration has decided that the e-mobility service will become permanent. The e-scooters are a fun and easy way of getting around, but I urge all users to be thoughtful of the general public when using footpaths and parking.

Additionally, the Queensland State Government introduced a package of e-scooter safety initiatives on 1 November 2022 including 12km/hour footpath speed limits for e-scooters, drink riding offences, increased fines, and greater enforcement powers for the Queensland Police Service.

If you have any concerns with the Neuron (orange) scooters, please contact Neuron Customer Support Team on 3067 8617 or email [email protected].

If you have any concerns with the Beam (purple) scooters, please contact Beam Customer Support Team on 3186 1011 or via www.ridebeam.com/help.

Business Spotlight

One of Brisbane’s best Thai restaurants moved to Wynnum last year and if you haven’t had a chance to check out Mekhong Wynnum, I highly recommend it. Their previous venture at New Farm was renowned for their Pad See Ew (Stir Fried Noodles in Dark Soy Sauce) and their Crispy Pork Curry and Coconut Potatoes are also huge crowd pleasers. Mekhong Wynnum is located on the corner of Berrima Street and Bay Terrace.
