FROM THE ART MY WORD ORGANISERS

How about a creative challenge – are you up for it?

Art My Word is a fundraiser for the Macleay Island Community Library that has evolved into a celebration of art, storytelling and community.

The Art My Word Experience is now in its third year and hosts three creative components: Art My Word for visual artists, Art My Story for writers, and Art My Photo for photographers.

Art My Word for 2D and 3D artists is now open for visual artists to participate. Each registering artist will receive a ‘lucky dip’ book, no longer in circulation at the library. This book will serve as a source of inspiration. Participating artists interpret the book and choose the medium for their new creation.

Some artists read the book to find revelation and visual ideas for their art. Some open the book to a random page or pick a word as a base for their expression. Others use imagery for inspiration, while a few opt to transform the book into something new.

All art and writing will be presented from November 3 to 7 online and at the Progress Hall gallery on Macleay Island. The program includes a pre-launch cocktail evening exhibition opening, a community day with music and awards, and an Art My Story day with author talks and workshops.

Any artists interested in partaking can hop over to the Macleay Island Library (Russell Terrace) to register for the challenge and pick up their random book. Library opening hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Fridays/Saturdays from 9:00 am to noon.
