FROM BAYSIDE BRASS

After more than seven decades of being deeply rooted in the Wynnum-Manly area, Bayside Brass is excited to announce its relocation to the Salvation Army Hall in Carina Heights. This marks a new chapter in the band’s history, while staying true to its legacy and connection to the bayside community.

The decision to move was not taken lightly, as the Wynnum-Manly area has been the home of Bayside Brass for over 75 years. Dating back to the 1950s, the Wynnum Manly Citizen’s Band became Bayside Brass in the 1990s to appeal to a greater catchment area for players.

The band’s name and identity are inextricably linked to this community as the area’s premier performance and contesting brass band. President and Musical Director Damian Bowden believes that the relocation of rehearsals to Carina Heights will not impact the band’s ties to the bayside community.

“Our membership base already travels from as far as Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane’s Northside and Redland City to play in the band,” said Mr Bowden. “There are some terrific schools in the area that will allow us to provide an option for their students to continue with community music-making when they graduate from school.”

The move was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of the Salvation Army Carindale, who have graciously opened their doors to the band when it was announced that the existing rehearsal venue was to be repurposed. This collaboration ensures that Bayside Brass has a comfortable and welcoming space to rehearse and create music. The band extends its heartfelt thanks to the Salvation Army for their community spirit and sharing their space with the band.

Rehearsals will remain on Tuesday nights from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, at the Salvation Army Hall, located at 202 Gallipoli Road, Carina Heights. Bayside Brass warmly encourages brass and percussion players of all ages to join us for a rehearsal and see what brass banding is all about. The band offers high-quality professional-level instruments for players that do not have their own instrument. From local performances to state championships, the band’s dedication to excellence and community engagement remains unwavering.
