Fishing

BY SPERO KARTANOS

I have been doing fishing reports for a long time now, helping people catch fish in our bay, and nothing pleases me more than to see the smiles on children’s faces when they catch a fish (or anything else in the bay). It’s something I love to see.

When it comes to taking the kids fishing, we just need to remember that fishing is easy, and kids – young and old – get bored easily, so pick a good day and take them where the fish are. Make sure you have the right bait, a simple jig, and remember: once they catch a few fish, they might just want to go to the beach to play. You need the kids to enjoy the day so it’s a positive experience, and one they remember for the rest of their lives.

I grew up fishing from the age of two with my dad and grandad on the island of Lefkas in Greece, and I still remember my very young days fishing. It brings me the same joy today, 70 years later.

This month, I’m sharing some of the photos that I have been sent, and some I have taken over the years that have put a smile (and a good laugh) on my face. I hope these photos do the same for you.

Happy fishing to you all, and especially the children!
