A number of local artists are set to open their studio doors and offer the public a glimpse inside their private creative spaces as part of a new art trail launching in Redland Bay.

Running over big ten days from March 27 to April 6, the inaugural Southern Moreton Bay Islands Art Trail invites art lovers and curious day-trippers to explore the creativity and natural beauty of Lamb Island (Ngudooroo) and Russell Island (Canaipa).

The trail will span private home studios, gazebo booths and gallery spaces across both islands, with 14 artists taking part.

It is the first of two events planned for the year, with a larger multi-island multicultural arts event scheduled for August.

Trail organiser Samida Sargeant – an artist with more than 30 years’ experience working across mediums including oil painting, sculpture and digital art – said the trail is a “community-driven initiative designed to strengthen the local creative economy and promote cultural tourism”.

“By opening private studios to the public, the event supports local artists and small businesses while showcasing the unique artistic spirit and natural beauty of the region,” she said.

“The trail will feature everything from original paintings and sculptures to handmade creations and garden art, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into the creative process, including the scent of materials to works-in-progress on the bench.

“And with the ferry to the islands costing only 50 cents, it is an incredibly accessible day trip.”

The grand opening will be held on March 27 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at RICArts on Robert Street.
