The Bonner Update - The Community Leader and Real Estate New and Views

Enter to win a BBQ meat tray this Australia Day!

Australia Day isn’t complete without a barbeque and that’s why I’m giving locals the chance to win one of three BBQ meat trays sourced from local butchers, including The Local Butcher, Manly.

This year, Australia Day will be a time to reflect on the events of 2021, respect the selfless sacrifice of frontline workers and celebrate the promise of a brighter 2022. I encourage Bonner residents to enter to win one of these BBQ meat trays, so you’re sorted for the ultimate Australia Day feast! Entries close 5pm Wednesday 19 January, to enter visit

Volunteer grants support 30 community groups in Bonner

The Morrison Government’s 2021 Volunteer Grants has seen 30 of Bonner’s community groups awarded a total of $116,768 in funding to support the role they play in our area as we move forward out of the pandemic. Funding awarded to Bayside community groups include, Wynnum and District Horse and Pony Club, Wynnum Christian Community Church, Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club, Sailability Bayside, Care Kits for Kids, Bayside Creeks Catchment Group and Bayside Sea Scouts.

These organisations have been provided grants of $1,000 to $5,000 to help with training and retention of volunteers, strengthening of participation in volunteering, supporting organisational activities and funding technologies like laptops to assist in the delivery of services. I look forward to visiting these organisations, thanking our volunteers for their contribution, and seeing how this funding has made a difference.

COVID-19 booster program is underway

The Australian Government booster program is officially underway. The booster shot will give you even better and longer lasting protection and help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Every Australian aged 18 and over who has completed their primary two-dose course of vaccination at least six months
ago is now eligible for their booster. To find your nearest appointment and to book visit or chat with your local GP.

Supporting local apprentices

I recently checked out the major renovations underway at Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club where they are upgrading their restaurant and bar to keep up with their growing membership. It was fantastic to meet General Manager Zoran Stojcevski, who gave me a tour of the club’s biggest makeover to date. The club is staying open during construction, so drop by and support this local business!

These upgrades are also enabling opportunities for our apprentices. We already have 1,455 apprentices in Bonner and the Morrison Government is continuing to deliver record funding for skills and training to get more Aussies on the tools and in high-quality jobs. With the latest trade apprentice figures showing the highest take up on record, we’re cementing our recovery.
