If you’re looking for something special and cosy and romantic for St Valentine’s Day, why not accept Melissa Western’s invitation to her parlour for an evening tipple – and not a drop has to pass your lips? Melissa and her band will wrap you up, smooth you out and tickle your taste buds with a selected degustation of songs about the drinks we love. Champagne, still wine, gin, beer, coffee, bourbon, juice, tea – there’s a song and a drink for every mood and every occasion, whether it’s heartbreak, new-found love, partying or just laying back and chilling out.
Melissa, an internationally acclaimed jazz-cabaret performer, had an original concept for a show about food and drink.
“Once I started putting the show together I realised that there was enough content to do a full week’s worth of shows on drink alone,” she says. “Most of the show is couched in jazz-cabaret style – my band is piano, double bass and drums – but there are songs from a really wide range of genres,” she says. “You’ll hear blues, pop, rock and even a taste of country. And once your ears have been titillated be prepared for other sensory pleasures…no spoilers, just come along and find out!”
Sip, Sparkle Skull is part of RPAC’s exciting new Stage Door Sessions, a limited-edition run of shows where the audience has the thrill of entering through the Stage Door rather than through the main entrance and sharing the stage space with the performers in an intimate cabaret-style setting. Stage Door Sessions offers a smorgasbord of entertainment – comedy, theatre, and music, music, music! They will run for a limited time, and each show has limited places, so early bookings are recommended. Sip, Sparkle Skull premieres on February 14 – but all you romantics knew that.
