Seniors’ Expo: Save the Date!
My annual ‘Bonner Seniors’ Expo’ is back on the Bayside this year! Those who have been before know that it is a great opportunity to speak with charities, businesses and government organisations who are committed to improving the lifestyles of older members of our community. It is a wonderful resource for all those who work with, care for, or are seniors living in Bonner!
This year’s event will take place on Thursday the 3rd of October at the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre. More information is to come, but in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office if you are interested in attending, or holding a stall at the expo.
Busy on the Bayside!
We have had a busy few weekends on the Bayside, and I want to thank all the local groups who were involved with the planning, set-up and execution of some particularly wonderful local events. Pups in the Park was paw-sitively fetching…Thank you to Tracey, Damien, and the entire Bayside Community Fund team (especially Miss Maggie) for organising such a unique event for our community and K-9s!
We also celebrated the second anniversary of the Richie’s Rainbow Foundation by walking from Lota Park to raise money for children’s cancer research! Thank you to Karl and Lisa for your heartfelt dedication in organising this event. What a great way to celebrate the life of little legend, Richie Walsh.
Finally, the Rotary Fun Day was another great day out, generously organised by the Wynnum Manly Rotary Club, in recognition and support of May being domestic violence month. These were all wonderful events, and I feel proud to represent such a community-minded part of Brisbane!
Alan Burge Community Room Open!
I am ecstatic to share that we officially opened the Alan Burge Community Room! Alan has been expertly tuning and restoring a 1907 all Australian made piano in my office over the past few years – he is the real-life ‘Piano Man’! While I can’t play myself, most who visit my office get a tour of this special piano! Alan’s perseverance and joy throughout this project has been so inspiring to me that I decided to name this great room after him. The Alan Burge Community Room is a versatile space for local groups to book and use as they wish for events or meetings.
