STATE MEMBER FROM LYTTON

Merry Christmas Lytton

As the year draws to a close, and the festive season grows near, I want to take the time to wish each and every baysider a happy Christmas. If you are travelling, well wishes for a safe journey ahead, and if you are staying local, may you enjoy all the beauty and charm that our unique corner of the State has to offer.

2022 has been full of progress and innovation for our bayside. From the commencement of critical infrastructure upgrades to the Lindum Station Precinct, to the undertaking of a vital community sports survey, to the opening of an iconic revitalised Manly Harbour Boat Club, and the announcement of clean, green hydrogen refuelling facilities for Lytton, I am so proud of what has been achieved this year.

In addition to the numerous food, beverage and entertainment venues that have opened their doors on our bayside, it is clear that Lytton truly is coming into its own as the inclusive, diverse and welcoming destination of Queensland – a future that we can all be proud of.

It has been a pleasure representing you this year as your State Member for Lytton, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together for our community in 2023.

Manly Harbour Christmas Lights

Baysiders are in for a treat this December. Manly locals are lighting up their homes, yachts, boats and businesses to create a festive Christmas lighting display for all to enjoy in the Manly Harbour Village. There will be prizes for the best decorated boats, homes and businesses, and regular night time harbour cruises throughout the month, to see the spectacle of the twinkling lights from the water.

For more information and to book harbour cruise tickets, visit the Manly Harbour Village website: https://www.manlyharbourvillage.com/harbourlights

Lytton Annual Christmas Food Drive

Thank you to everyone who donated to my annual Christmas Food Drive!

Each year, I collect non-perishable food and hygiene items from the Lytton community and distribute them to those most in need, with the support of a fantastic local community group.

This year, all donations went to St Pete’s Pantry Wynnum, to feed vulnerable people in our community.

Christmas should be a rewarding time of the year, full of celebration, relaxation and festive spirit. However, for those in our community who are struggling to pay bills or put food on the table, it can be stressful and challenging.

Thanks to your support and generosity, we have ensured that baysiders doing it tough this Christmas will receive the dignity and respect they deserve.

Paint the Bayside Orange

It was a pleasure to attend the Paint the Bayside Orange Breakfast recently, hosted by the Zonta Club of Brisbane East.

The Breakfast is an important annual event in Lytton that raises awareness for ending violence against women. It brings our community together and strengthens our knowledge and understanding of the topic, while reminding us of all of the importance of fostering respectful relationships in our community.

This year, we were very privileged to hear from guest speaker Vanessa Fowler, Chair of the Allison Baden-Clay Foundation and Co-Chair of the Queensland Domestic Violence Prevention Council, who gave an informative and heartfelt speech that inspired us all.

It was also wonderful to see many of our locals in attendance, including community groups, schools and businesses. Thank you for giving up your time, and I hope to see you all again at next year’s Breakfast.

Wynnum Fringe Festival 2022

Wynnum Fringe Festival has officially launched for 2022, and what an exciting program of events available for baysiders to experience!

The three-week arts, entertainment and cultural extravaganza spans a dazzling array of performance genres including music, dance, comedy, theatre, cabaret, burlesque, circus as well as weekend family programming.

This year, Wynnum Fringe Festival has an exciting new hub at George Clayton Park – the Wynnum Fringe Garden. Situated on the shores of beautiful Moreton Bay, the Garden is not only the home of the Spiegeltent, a brand new performance space, but a place of gathering and celebration.

As well as housing the Spiegeltent, Wynnum Fringe Garden features a Ferris Wheel, a container bar with a rooftop seating area, food trucks, artists performing Rock The Bay: Pop Up Series gigs daily in Miles: The Caravan Stage and roving entertainment from Cocoloco and Memetica.

Principal and P&C/F Thank you

Recently, I hosted our amazing, talented local school principals, P&F and P&C teams for an annual afternoon of networking, whilst also recognising the outstanding work they do for young people of Lytton.

Thank you to everyone who attended – it was a pleasure to have you!

An important reminder of the engaged and caring community we have here in Lytton. Together, we truly are stronger.
