STATE MEMBER FOR LYTTON

Welcome to 2023

Happy New Year Lytton! Welcome to 2023 – a year that promises to be full of milestones, progress and achievements for the bayside.

As always, I am here to serve you as your State Member for Lytton. If you have any questions, concerns or require assistance, my office is open from 8am – 4pm, Monday to Friday. You can get in contact by calling 3395 1100, or by email at [email protected]. May the year ahead be prosperous and full of opportunity, and I look forward to seeing you all in my travels around the bayside this year.

Fee-Free TAFE and VET Places for Queenslanders

In BIG news, the Australian and Queensland governments are working together to deliver more than 37,000 Fee-Free TAFE places for Queenslanders.

More than $200 million is being injected into Queensland’s skills and training sector in a skills agreement this year.

Under the new agreement, fee-free courses will include priority areas such as the care sector, emerging technology and digital industries, hospitality and tourism, construction, agriculture, and sovereign capability including manufacturing.

Free training will encourage workers to take on new skills in priority areas that lead to good secure jobs in our traditional and emerging industries.

Check out what courses are freely available at our local TAFE campuses here: https://tafeqld.edu.au/

Community Volunteering

Do you have some spare time in your week? Help give back to our bayside, by volunteering for one of our amazing community groups.

Volunteering is such a rewarding opportunity. From wonderful friendships and connections you can form, to the satisfaction of making a difference to the lives of our locals, I would strongly encourage baysiders to consider donating some of their spare time.

Ride n Ride

Make your new year’s resolution to stay fit and active this year, by replacing your daily car commute to and from Manly train station with a bike ride.

Due to a state-of-the-art secure bike storage enclosure – infrastructure that I proudly delivered to baysiders in 2022 – you can safely park your bike for the day, witb peace of mind that it will be ready for you to ride home at any time.

It’s a great way to fit exercise into your day, beat the peak-hour commuter car rush, and help the environment.

Bayside Community Fund

In 2022, I announced the launch of the Bayside Community Fund, a charitable fund designed to help bayside community groups through grants and financial assistance. Future Baysiders will be supported by the fund’s dividends being made available via grants to eligible community groups to deliver grass roots services to the Bayside.

Recently, one of our Lytton locals and bayside business owners, Justin Ham from Hambros Chartered Accountants, made a sizeable donation towards the Fund. A big thank you to Justin for your support of our bayside.

Like Justin, you can contribute to the future of our bayside by making a donation to the Bayside Community Fund here:

Bayside Business Grants

Bayside business owners have been exceptionally successful in achieving funding in the latest rounds of the Business Boost and Business Growth grants.

Recently, I caught up with owners Michael and Dallas of Dunn and Watson Pty Ltd, whose business is one of the most recent recipients of a $50,000 Business Growth Grant.

Operated by two young people that are passionate about the outdoors, Dunn and Watson Pty Ltd are a leading local manufacturer of industrial hardware, spare parts and accessories for 4WDs, Utes, boats, caravans and RVs, that can be used to optimise the functionality of these vehicles.

The successful grant funds will go towards purchasing a new CNC machine, that will streamline and increase the speed of production at their Tingalpa fabrication facility.

Congratulations Michael and Dallas! I look forward to working closely with your business into the future.
