STATE MEMBER FOR LYTTON
Visy Opens State-of-the-art Packaging Facility in our Bayside
Visy has officially unveiled its brand-new $150 million corrugated packaging factory located in Hemmant.
I was delighted to recently attend the inauguration of this fantastic advanced manufacturing hub.
This state-of-the-art facility promises to produce a staggering 1 million boxes every day, setting a benchmark for advanced manufacturing in our Bayside.
Each of these boxes will be crafted from 100% recycled paper, sourced directly from Visy’s Gibson Island recycling facility and paper mill.
During its construction phase, the project provided jobs to 300 individuals. Now, as the facility swings into full operation, it is set to generate over 100 ‘green collar’ employment opportunities, fostering sustainable and responsible growth.
Not only is this a significant boost to Queensland’s circular economy, but it has been a fantastic injection to the local economy and workforce. I am so proud to be part of a government that’s investing in a vast range of industries.
Vale Lionel Morgan
Rugby League and hard working community legend Lionel Morgan passed away recently.
Lionel is well remembered for his prowess on the field and as being the first Aboriginal man selected to play Rugby League for Australia.
He will also be remembered for his commitment to community through his work with Murri Court and Winnam Housing as well as Kianawah Swim Club and Wynnum North Pool.
New Support Program for Small Businesses
I am proud to announce a big program of support to help Bayside small businesses save money – the Queensland Business Energy Saving and Transformation (QBEST) program.
The Queensland Government has already been delivering cash back on energy-efficient appliances for households through the Climate Smart Energy Savers program, and now this program has been expanded to include small and medium businesses.
Eligible Bayside businesses will be able to claim up to $12,500 cash back on a range of energy efficient appliances, lighting, refrigeration and chillers, industrial equipment, and more.
Applications opened on Thursday 5 October and rebates will only be available for purchases made after that date.
Celebrate for Cause Success
Another wonderful Celebrate for a Cause event saw the Manly Harbour Boat Club transformed into mid-century Palm Springs. Hundreds of Baysiders attended this event, which gets bigger and bigger each year. Thanks to organisers for your commitment to support local not for profits. This year Rosies – friends on the Street and Bayside Community Fund will be the recipients of funds raised.
Both are excellent causes, supporting Baysiders, just like CFC supports Baysiders every single day.
