Community Sport Survey

As you know, I am a proud supporter of our fabulous Bayside community. I love seeing our community come together, support each other and enjoy the range of activities that we have available.

Recent discussions around Kitchener Park and Kougari Oval have got me thinking about community sport in the Bayside generally and I’m really interested in hearing from you, the local community. I have created a survey community sport and I would love to hear from you.

How do you, your family and friends participate in local sporting clubs? Do you volunteer or go down to a field to watch your favourite team play? Please visit the following link to fill out the survey – https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YZ6VGPK.

Clean Up Australia Day

It’s that time of year again! On 6 March, I will be putting on my gumboots to clean up Wynnum Creek and I invite you to join me.

Clean Up Australia Day takes place Sunday, 6 March and myself and my co-hosts, Darling Point Special School, will set up at Greene Park from 6am to clean up Wynnum Creek. I will be providing cold drinks, coffee and a sausage sizzle. Thanks to the Wynnum Manly and Districts Men Shed for volunteering to cook the barbeque!

If you are interested in participating, please email [email protected] or call 3915 1100. And if you find yourself free on the day, come on down!

Gambling Community Benefit Fund Update

Round 112 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund saw almost $200 000 split across eight local community groups; Darling Point Sailing Squadron, Bayside Jet Basketball Club, Pandanus Paddle Club, Rotary Club of Wynnum, Savoyards, Wynnum District Horse and Pony Club, Wynnum Manly Little Athletics and Wynnum State High School P&C Association. Congratulations!

The first round in 2022 will be a super round, with up to $100 000 available. Applications open 21 February and close 31 March so I recommend you get started soon!

Cultivating a Community

The Bayside has spoken! Our February Business of the Month was an easy pick, with Holly Bainbridge of Cultivate Designs receiving several nominations, as well as overwhelming support on Facebook.

Cultivate Designs is a ‘beautifully curated space’, according to one Facebook fan, that offers gorgeous homewares, gifts, and delicious chocolates. Since day 1 Holly has been a dedicated and enthusiastic retailer in Wynnum Central, working hard to improve her own business and supporting the business community around her.

I was thrilled to present Holly with this well-deserved award.

Clean Air Australia

I’d like to introduce you to Clean Air Wynnum, a local environmental organization.  Thanks to a government grant, Clean Air Wynnum purchased ten Purple Air monitors as a follow on from the joint citizens science project with Wynnum Creek Catchment Group. The air monitors will help measure pollution events in real time. Clean Air Wynnum would love to hear suggestions from locals on the best place to install these monitors. You can learn more at: https://www2.purpleair.com/

If you are interested in attending a meeting, they take place on the second Wednesday of the month, 2pm at the Wynnum Library.

Business of the Month

Do you know a great local business that deserves a shout-out? Nominate them for my Business of the Month and they could receive a plaque and a Facebook post celebrating their greatness!

Submit your pick by sending an email to [email protected]. Please include the business’s name, contact details, and a sentence or two describing what they do. You can nominate a café, a trades business or an online store – so long as it’s local.
