STATE MEMBER FOR LYTTON

Happy New Year Baysiders!

Happy New Year Lytton! Welcome to 2024 – a year that promises to be full of milestones, progress and achievements for our Bayside.

As always, I am here to serve you as your State Member for Lytton. If you have any questions, concerns or require assistance, my office is open from 8am – 4pm, Monday to Friday.

You can get in contact by calling 3395 1100, or by emailing my office at [email protected]. I wish you all the best for the year ahead and I look forward to seeing you in my travels around the Bayside!

Wynnum Cup Swimming Carnival

At the end of December, I was delighted to attend the Wynnum Cup Swimming Carnival and donate a raffle prize. The Carnival was hosted at Wynnum State School pool by the Wynnum Wahoos, with our Bayside swimming clubs competing in a show of incredible community spirit.

I was absolutely blown away by the brilliant show of talent on the day. Even better, I am advised that we had 231 personal bests and 9 pool records!

Congratulations to all the swimmers, and to the Wynnum Wahoos for hosting the Carnival.

Lindum Station Accessibility Upgrade

Baysiders, the Lindum Station Accessibility Upgrade is full steam ahead. From 22 January 2024, the station will close to the public to build new platforms, a new footbridge with lift access and many other outstanding accessibility features.

To ensure the needs of customers are met, Queensland Rail and the Department of Transport and Main Roads have developed an Alternative Transport Plan.

Shuttle Bus 229 will operate between Lindum and Wynnum North stations, with a stop at North Road opposite Iona College. The fully accessible Shuttle will operate every 10-15 minutes during peak periods (7-9 AM and 3-4 PM on weekdays), and in-line with train arrivals at Wynnum North Station during off-peak periods.

Customers can also utilise the existing Bus Route 224 from Sibley Road, and Wynnum North and Hemmant Stations will also continue operations during the upgrade.

Stay ahead by downloading the MyTranslink app, visiting translink.com.au, or calling 13 12 30 for more information.

The Pease Podcast

On this month’s episode of the Pease Podcast, I talk with a true Lytton local legend: Mali Hannun.

Mali is an incredible local entrepreneur and businesswoman. She is the founder owner of two Bayside businesses: Cedar and Pine Bar on Bay Terrace and the Little Cedar Store on Glenora Street. She is a trailblazer who pioneered the vibrant hospitality scene on our Bayside.

I talk with Mali about her professional experiences, her business journey, and the wonderful venues that Mali operates.

School Watch

It’s really important that as a Bayside community, we keep watch on our schools over the holidays.

Our schools have a range of protection measures already in place, including monitored intruder detection, CCTV and surveillance
by police, Protective Services, and private security firms, however it’s the eyes and ears of locals that can prevent instances of crime from occurring in the first place.

If you see or hear anything at our schools these holidays that appears suspicious, you can call the School Watch number on 13 17 88. As always, if you see a crime in progress, call Triple Zero (000).

Together, we can ensure that all students can come back to safe learning environments when they return to school in the new year.

Airservices Australia Noise Action Plan Update

Airservices Australia have released Phase 3 of design options for the Noise Action Plan for Brisbane. In this Phase, there have been several changes. This includes preventing non-jet aircraft departures between 5am and 6am from the new runway, and a new requirement for all non-jet over land departures from the legacy runway to track back over the airport/industrial land and continue their climb over water.

For more information or to provide feedback, please visit the AirServices Australia website.
