Kim Richards MP community update - The Community Leader and Real Estate New and Views

KIM RICHARDS MP, STATE MEMBER FOR REDLANDS

$15M for Weinam Creek Carpark

With over 8,000 people calling the Southern Moreton Bay Islands home, we are seeing increasing parking pressures around Weinam Creek. In February, Redland City Council signed a non-binding MOU with Consolidated Properties Group as its preferred delivery partner for the Weinam Creek multi-storey carpark and retail development. I know how important a better parking solution is for the community and have been supportive of this project from the beginning. Although a Redland City Council project, I have fought to secure funding to ensure this much needed infrastructure can be delivered and fast tracked. This $15 million will provide confidence that we are supporting Redland City Council to deliver key infrastructure for our community and visitors to our islands and revitalise our waterfront.

Redlands New High Risk DFV Team

A new specialist domestic and family violence (DFV) service will begin operating in the Redlands this month. The Centre for Women and Co will lead the new Redlands-based High-Risk Team (HRT) offering enhanced coordination to better respond to victims at risk of serious harm. We know domestic and family violence is a scourge on our society and by bringing together all the relevant agencies on this Redlands High Risk team we will be able to better respond to victims at risk and hold perpetrators to account. I will keep working hard to support victim-survivors to make a difference in the lives of women and children across the Redlands.

Community Grants Bonanza

Redlands has had a bonanza in Community Grants this month with over $500,000 being awarded to local clubs. Just some of the amazing projects that will get off the ground with this funding include an upgraded Redland Bay Fishing Clubhouse, an upgraded Macleay Island Progress Hall with new bifold doors, a new dragon boat for the Redlands Sea Dragons, solar power for our Russell Island Mens Shed and a new car for The Cage Youth Foundation.  As always Don Brown MP for Capalaba and I will be hosting our annual grants night workshop in May.  If you are keen to attend, you can seek further details and register by emailing my office: [email protected]

More Convenient Healthcare

It’s coming into the flu season and a great time to visit your local pharmacy for your free flu vaccination. The Miles Government is committed to delivering better access to healthcare services, for Queensland women and girls. That’s why in addition to being able to access urinary tract infection medication, hormonal contraception will be able to be prescribed by appropriately trained community pharmacists. Women and girls aged 16 and older can access a range of hormonal contraceptives through their local pharmacy. This initiative will ease the burden on GPs, freeing up appointments for Queenslanders.
