Bay FM presenter Georgia Phillips is taking on one of her biggest challenges yet, stepping onto the stage for the first time in MATES Theatre Genesis’ September production of The Sweet Delilah Swim Club.
Known for embracing new experiences, Georgia has swapped the radio studio for the stage, where she’s playing Lexie – a confident, flirtatious woman who couldn’t be more different from her own personality.
“I love challenging myself and trying new things,” Georgia said. “Playing someone so different from myself has really pushed me outside my comfort zone, but rehearsing with such a supportive cast has given me the confidence to embrace the role.”
The Sweet Delilah Swim Club is a sparkling celebration of female friendship, following five women whose bond began on a college swim team and has endured for more than 30 years. Warm, witty and uplifting, it explores the realities of marriage breakdown, parenting, ageing and mental health with honesty and humour.
Director Jacqueline Kerr believes those themes are what make the play so relatable.
“It’s funny, touching and incredibly honest,” she said. “Almost everyone will recognise themselves, or someone they know, in these characters.”
