From sparkling opals to crystals, fossils, minerals and handcrafted jewellery, treasure hunters are in for a real treat when the Waterloo Bay Lapidary Club Inc hosts its annual Gem Show this month.
Held on August 29 at the Hemmant Community Hall, the show will feature vendors offering everything from polished stones to exquisite jewellery pieces and silver creations such as rings, necklaces, pendants, and earrings, plus collectors’ items, lapidary supplies, books, coins, and more.
Club president Maria Anderson said the show was a chance for the community to discover the fascinating world of lapidary while picking up some one-of-a-kind items.
“We will have somewhere in the range of 25 to 30 vendors, so there will be a great range of different and unique items for sale,” she said.
“One of the biggest crowd favourites each year is a vendor who cracks open mystery crystal eggs, revealing the sparkling treasures hidden inside – you never know what you will find inside, which makes the reveal all the more fun.
“The clubrooms will also be open so people can have a look around, see the equipment we use, learn more about the hobby, and ask as many questions as they would like.
“The show has been a big hit with the community in the past, so we are looking forward to another big show this year.”
Visitors can also enjoy homemade cakes and other items, such as jams and pickles, for sale on the club table, or purchase refreshments and drinks at the Soft Rock Café.
The show will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Hemmant Community Hall, located at 29-31 Hemmant Tingalpa Road, Hemmant.
With the venue located directly opposite Hemmant train station, Maria said visitors could leave the car at home and enjoy easy access by train.
