FROM THE BMD WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS

Wynnum Manly’s wider squad received invaluable experience in their 52-4 loss to the Brisbane Broncos in their opening trial on February 12.

The Seagulls used 36 players across HostPlus Cup and Hastings Deering Colts squads to test their players against elite NRL talent in front of a sell-out capacity crowd of 5,000 at BMD Kougari Oval.

Despite the scoreline, the Seagulls players took a lot of valuable lessons from the match with their NRL affiliate as they push forward into two more trial matches in March.

The players have been training at a high intensity as spots in the HostPlus Cup team remain up for grabs throughout the pre-season trials.

Looking ahead to the HostPlus Cup season kick-off on March 20, the Seagulls will play the Burleigh Bears at BMD Kougari Oval. Round two will see the Seagulls take their home game to Iona College against the Northern Pride in a free event for the community.

Both games are expected to draw significant crowds as the Seagulls start the 2022 season off the back of both men’s teams making their respective grand finals.

The Seagulls will play four of their first five games at home to start 2022 and would love the support of the local community to kickstart the season.
