FROM THE BMD WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS

The BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls had an up-and-down month in July, starting with a win against our 2021 grand final opponents, the Norths Devils. Two losses in a row followed against the PNG Hunters and Northern Pride. The Seagulls expected to beat these two teams, however with a number of players getting the call up to the Brisbane Broncos through the State of Origin period, the team was left short in comparison to normal.

Our next challenge is to head to Sarina to take on the Mackay Cutters during QRL’s ‘Country Week’.
This is essentially a Mackay home game, so will be another tough one for the Seagulls to overcome.

With five regular season home games left in 2022, the Gulls are looking to make a run towards the finals and finish in the top four. The main goal is to host a home semi-final in order to give ourselves the best chance to make it back to the Grand Final in consecutive years. Our next game at Kougari Oval is Sunday 21 August vs Souths Logan Magpies. This match will be played for the Mitch Cronin Cup, and is also the Broncos affiliate game, in what will be our most special game of the season.

Outside of the football field, the Seagulls are hosting their Sportsman’s Dinner on Tuesday 9 August (Ekka Wednesday eve) at the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club. Tickets will still be available up until the first few days of August, and this will be an event to be remembered. With Supercoach Wayne Bennett as the special guest, and support from Shane Webcke, Greg Ritchie and Pat Welsh, we’re expecting a big crowd on the night. This is the premier event on the Seagulls’ calendar, with all proceeds going to the Seagulls Foundation which supports player welfare, junior development and infrastructure improvements.
