SENIOR SEAGULLS REACH MAJOR MILESTONES - The Community Leader and Real Estate New and Views

On Sunday June 20, the Seagulls recognised a huge achievement from two senior players. Aaron Rockley played his 100th Intrust Super Cup game for the club, while Delouise Hoeter chalked up 100 games in the competition overall and 50 for the club.

The mood in the Wynnum Manly dressing shed prior to kick-off was pensive, yet upbeat, with the squad bouncing back from an emotional Mitch Cronin Memorial Match the week prior. As players and officials walked past Rockley and Hoeter they would pause, embrace, congratulate them and wish them both luck. As the countdown to kick-off expired, these two exceptional young men led the Seagulls onto BMD Kougari Oval to the cheers of a packed Chook Pen.

A hard fought game ensued, with the Gulls entering the half-time sheds down by two points. A series of strong defensive efforts in the second half, alongside some renewed attacking form, allowed the team to secure victory with a try in the final five minutes and finish the game 24-14. Rockley’s efforts in the forward pack earned him Player of the Match honours in a fitting tribute, with the crowd joining players on the field for a post-game presentation.

Both Rockley and Hoeter have been recognised by coaches and peers as part of the senior leaders within the playing group in 2021. Together, they have led the squad on and off the field to an impressive start to the season. The club would like to recognise and thank the contribution of both players and their families to the local community and sporting culture.
