Selwyn Cobbo celebrates a game winning try in front of the Chook Pen.

FROM THE BMD WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS

An impressive start to the Intrust Super Cup finals series has seen the BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls advance to the preliminary finals. Their next match will be held on Sunday October 3 at Suncorp Stadium, as a curtain raiser to the NRL Grand Final!

A passionate home crowd urged the Gulls to victory against the Burleigh Bears in Week 1 of the Finals series. In a thrilling contest, the Seagulls took home a 22-14 win thanks to a game breaking try to Selwyn Cobbo. Cobbo recently extended a full time contract with the Brisbane Broncos after making his NRL debut this season.

Plenty of other Seagulls had impressive games in Week 1, in what was one of the team’s best games in recent weeks. The Intrust Super Cup squad is rounding into form at the perfect time, looking to secure a spot in the grand final to be held at Redcliffe on October 10.

The McDonald’s Seagulls Academy Colts also kicked off their finals campaign at home at BMD Kougari Oval. After finishing their season on top of the ladder, the Seagulls secured the Minor Premiership in the Hastings Deering Colts competition. It was a tough contest for the Colts on Sunday afternoon, going down to the Sunshine Coast Falcons. The Colts live to fight another day and will move on to Week 2 of the finals series.

There’s still plenty of footy to come in the bayside, with junior footy finals and TRL all through the Summer. Stay tuned for more information about those finals. The club would like to thank fans and members for their support of our home games this season and looks forward to welcoming the community back again in early 2022.
