CHRISTMAS HAMPER DONATIONS WELCOME
This Christmas, St Pete’s Pantry is spreading festive cheer with its annual Christmas Hamper appeal. I’m proud to once again support this wonderful initiative, with my office at 100 Edith Street, Wynnum, acting as a community drop-off point for hamper goods. Donations of non-perishable food items are warmly welcomed. These include Christmas cake, pudding, canned ham/spam, custard, mince pies, biscuits, tinned fish, packet jellies, chips, lollies, chocolates, nuts and nibblies, and tinned fruit. Every contribution, big or small, helps create a hamper filled with love and care.
PINE STREET BRIDGE SOLUTIONS REQUIRED
Another two vehicles made impact with the now infamous Pine St Bridge in Wynnum in October. It causes mayhem and lengthy delays on the Cleveland train line every time it’s hit. My office has been in touch with Queensland Rail and has also spoken to the local Brisbane City Councillor about finding appropriate traffic safety solutions. We need to all work together to find solutions that aren’t cost prohibitive and that actually work. However, drivers must take greater care, particularly around height restrictions at all rail bridges, including Pine, Berrima and Burke Street bridges.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PHONE SAFE BOX
Did you know your old mobile phone could help save a life? DV Phone Safe collects, repurposes and gifts mobile phones to victims of domestic violence, providing them with a safe and secure way to call for help. Often, victims are left without access to communication when escaping dangerous situations, and a working phone can be a vital lifeline. You can now drop off your unused mobile phones at my electorate office at 100 Edith St in Wynnum. Together, we can make a real difference.

WORKING WITH TINGALPA FLOOD RESIDENTS
I recently met with dozens of residents in Tingalpa to discuss the ongoing flooding issues impacting Boundary Street and nearby areas. Flooding here is not a minor inconvenience –
it affects safety, property and liveability. Listening to residents is the most important part
of my job, and I am committed to pursuing a long-term solution. That means working constructively across various levels of government – Brisbane City Council, the State
Government and our community – to deliver practical outcomes that address this issue.

WYNNUM PRECINCT HEIGHT CHANGES
Thanks to all Baysiders who had their say during the consultation period for the proposed changes to the Wynnum Precinct Plan. The revised plan expands the precinct boundaries and allows for taller buildings, with some sites increasing from 8 to 15 storeys. As we plan for the future of Wynnum, it’s vital that growth balances opportunity while protecting the unique Bayside character that makes our community special.

WINNAM YAGABA JAGU TAKING SHAPE
I recently joined Deputy Opposition Leader Cameron Dick for a tour of the building works at the new Winnam Yagaba Jagu Aged Care Facility in Lota. This purpose-built centre will provide much-needed care for our elderly and is a blueprint for the future of aged services in Queensland. The project is being built on the site of the old Wynnum Hospital, which was closed down by the former Newman LNP government. It’s a shining example of what can be achieved when community leaders, including Aunty Becky Thomson OAM, work together with government to deliver better outcomes.
