FREE MEALS EVERY WEDNESDAY

The Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre has started providing free meals to vulnerable Baysiders in need. Meals are provided every Wednesday from 4pm to 5pm.

With the continued closure of Wynnum Community Place due to the Queensland Government not making funding available (despite promises to do so), there is a clear need to support and feed Baysiders in need. I congratulate the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre for stepping up to fill this void.

BAYSIDE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VIGIL

Let’s send a clear message from the Bayside: that any form of violence in families and homes will never be tolerated.

This year, our Bayside DV Candlelight Vigil will be on Wednesday, 7 May 2025 from 5:30pm – 6:15pm at Pandanus Beach, Wynnum.

I encourage Baysiders of all ages to attend and to have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers and survivors of DFV. Together, we gather and unite by the light of hundreds of candles. It is my pleasure to invite Baysiders to attend this significant Bayside event. Let’s take a stand against DFV.

CELEBRATING SMALL BUSINESS MONTH

May is Queensland Small Business Month.

There are nearly 500,000 small businesses registered in Queensland. Small businesses are the backbone of the Queensland economy. They contribute more than $117 billion to the Australian economy each year. Without them, our economy withers on the vine.

As a former small business owner and operator before entering this place, I fully understand the everyday highs and lows of the caper. It’s every bit a rollercoaster.

We can all do our bit to support our local economy. Let’s get behind our Bayside small businesses by shopping local where possible.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON WYNNUM BUILDING HEIGHTS

Feedback for the Wynnum Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan closes on Sunday 18 May 2025. Having already consulted extensively with key land owners and developers, Brisbane City Council now want to hear the views of the general community.

The Lord Mayor expects 400,000 people to move into Brisbane in the coming years.  In a recent press release, Lord Mayor Schrinner said: “We’re striking a balance by choosing tall over sprawl; encouraging more homes in well-located areas.

“Wynnum’s CBD is the second precinct to be identified as part of the plan. The focus area for the precinct will span from Berrima Street to Clara Street and along Tingal Road and Bay Terrace, encompassing Wynnum Central Station and the core parts of Bride Street, Charlotte Street, Florence Street and Edith Street,” the Lord Mayor said.

I encourage all residents to have their say by May 18 about far-reaching planning decisions that will shape our Bayside community. For more, go to https://yoursay.brisbane.qld.gov.au/wynnum-centre-suburban-renewal-precinct-plan.
