6 MONTHS OF 50 CENT FARES

Our 50 cent public transport fares are here to stay. They’ve now been in for over 6 months. The great news is that public transport patronage is up 20%.

Thousands of Bayside commuters are saving up to $50 per week on travelling. I encourage all Baysiders to make the switch to public transport, where possible. You can reduce local traffic congestion, help the environment, and take pressure off your household budget. The cost is 50 cents per trip – please remember to tap on and tap off.

MOUNTED POLICE PATROLS

You may hove noticed more Mounted Police Unit patrols in Wynnum Central recently. The Mounted Police Unit, based out in Moggill, have been undertaking regular scheduled patrolling of our Bayside. Pictured is 11-year-old Lance and his much shyer older brother Karma in the background, who is 13. The Mounted Police Unit are frontline operational police officers, except they carry out their duties from above crowd level astride a horse. There’s a few extra duties as well…training, grooming, brushing, feeding, exercising, mucking out stables and picking up poo, just to mention a few.

SMALL BUSINESS GROWTH STRATEGY RELEASED

I had a productive meeting with Australia’s Treasurer and fellow Queenslander Jim Chalmers about opportunities to grow small businesses in our great state. Queensland’s 485,000 small businesses are vital to driving our country’s prosperity.

Australia’s first ever National Strategy for Small Business has just been released.

As the Shadow Minister for Small Business, the main feedback I’m getting from the sector includes the need to address labour shortages, retain skilled workers and address operational costs. A national strategy will help address the operating environment for small businesses and support them to grow.
