TWO BAYSIDERS RECEIVE KING’S BIRTHDAY HONOURS

Congratulations to two outstanding Baysiders, Simon Steenland OAM and David Westlake OAM, who were recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours.

Simon (pictured) received his OAM for outstanding service to youth and sailing. As a driving force behind South Passage, he has helped thousands of young Queenslanders build confidence, resilience and leadership skills through life-changing experiences at sea. His dedication has left a lasting legacy for generations of young people.

David was recognised for decades of community service through the Wynnum Manly Districts Men’s Shed, as a Justice of the Peace, and as a volunteer school bus driver. His commitment to helping others has enriched the lives of countless Baysiders.

This Big Build Project is about so much more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating opportunities, fostering inclusion and ensuring local children with disability have access to modern, purpose-built facilities where they can learn, grow and thrive.

A heartfelt thanks to Principal Charmaine Driver, the dedicated staff, parents and school community whose passion and advocacy helped bring this vision to life. Your commitment is inspiring. Most importantly, congratulations to the students. This is your school, your space and your future!
