OCTOBER IS QUEENSLAND SENIORS MONTH
October is Queensland Seniors Month, a chance to celebrate the wonderful contribution older Queenslanders make to our community. Here on the Bayside, our seniors are the backbone of so many local clubs, community organisations and volunteer groups, generously giving their time, knowledge and experience.
Throughout October, there are plenty of opportunities to connect, celebrate and get involved. I encourage everyone to check out what’s happening and join in the celebrations.

BRISBANE BAYSIDE STUDENT HONOURED
Congratulations to Spencer Aldridge from Brisbane Bayside State College, one of just 13 students from across Queensland to receive the Order of Australia Association’s Secondary Schools Citizenship Award for 2026.
It was a pleasure to join Spencer at Parliament House as he received his award from Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland.
These awards recognise Year 12 students who have made a significant contribution to their school and community. Spencer is a wonderful young representative of our Bayside community, and I know his family, school and friends will be incredibly proud.

QUEENSLAND LOSES CREDIT RATING
Queensland has received a credit rating downgrade. After holding a AA+ rating for nearly two decades, the State has lost that standing. New analysis reported by The Australian estimates the downgrade could add up to $1billion to Queensland’s interest bill by 2030, as debt continues to rise.
The Queensland LNP Government also used its numbers in Parliament to block debate on the downgrade. Higher interest costs mean less money available for essential services and infrastructure. Queenslanders deserve openness and accountability over decisions affecting our State’s finances, economy and future investment.
