FROM WYNNUM MANLY LEAGUES CLUB
With 2025 well underway, Wynnum Manly Leagues Club is kicking off the year in spectacular fashion, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the future of rugby league and the broader Wynnum-Manly community.
Recently, Wynnum Manly Leagues Club Chairman Brett Mooney presented Seagulls’ Chairman George Hill with an $880,000 sponsorship cheque for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls’ 2025 season. This amount is an impressive increase from last year’s $770,000. This sponsorship is further complemented by over $400,000 in in-kind support, covering essential operational costs such as power, water, and maintenance, ensuring the continued upkeep of the iconic Kougari Oval.
This sponsorship follows the substantial one-off $440,000 Game Changer Relief Payment provided by Wynnum Manly Leagues Club at the end of 2024, further securing the Seagulls’ financial stability and future success. The 2025 sponsorship will ensure the men’s and women’s teams have the necessary resources to compete at their best, while also laying a strong foundation for the club’s new Brisbane Rugby League (BRL) teams.
Wynnum Manly Juniors have received a $330,000 sponsorship for 2025, ensuring young athletes have the facilities and support they need to develop. Additionally, Fielders Club is set to commence a major redevelopment project, introducing four new junior training fields. This expansion will help alleviate the pressure on Wynnum Manly Juniors, which is currently operating at full capacity.
Wynnum Manly Leagues Club’s commitment extends far beyond the field. The club is dedicated to empowering the community through its Community Grants Program, which contributed over $70,000 to local initiatives in 2024. These grants supported a wide range of projects, including the purchase of a commercial fridge for St Pete’s Pantry to aid in distributing food hampers to vulnerable community members, and funding for holiday school programs at BABI (Bayside Adolescent Boarding Inc). The next major Community Grants round is set to open on May 1, 2025, and close on June 30, 2025.
