ladybugs chalk up 10 years — but still no home ground courts - The Community Leader and Real Estate New and Views

This year marks a significant milestone for Wynnum Ladybugs Netball as they celebrate their 10th anniversary. What began as a small group of passionate players in their first season in 2016 has grown into a thriving club with over 34 teams, ranging from Under 7s to teenagers.

For a decade, the Ladybugs have brought families together, built confidence in young girls, created lifelong friendships on and off the court, and have become the largest club in the Redlands Netball Association.

But while the club has gone from strength to strength, there’s one thing they’re still waiting on – netball courts at their home ground and the place where it all began, Elanora Park, shared with Wynnum Bugs Rugby Club.

The Ladybugs have been fighting for years to have facilities built at the park, but despite grants being provided to assist with the cost, countless emails, proposals, and meetings requested, Brisbane City Council continue to leave the club in the dark.

Parents, players, volunteers and committee members are frustrated. They see the club growing every year, bringing joy to the community, and a much-needed netball club to the bayside, yet are struggling to access the basic facilities they need at home.

Despite these hurdles, the Ladybugs aren’t giving up. They’re proud of the netball community that they have built over the last 10 years, and they are determined to keep pushing for courts and facilities at their home ground, one where local girls can play, train, and grow for decades to come.
