CONTRIBUTED BY WELLINGTON POINT BOWLS CLUB

The 2025 season was another significant year for the juniors at Wellington Point Bowls Club. The club continued its commitment to nurturing young talent, fostering sportsmanship, and encouraging the next generation of bowlers. This report outlines the key achievements, participation statistics, events, coaching highlights, and future plans for the junior program.

Junior membership saw a steady increase in 2025, with a total of 18 active junior members aged between six and 17 years. This growth can be attributed to successful school outreach programs, word-of-mouth referrals, and the ongoing support from families and volunteers. The club welcomed several new faces, all of whom have shown great enthusiasm and promise for the sport.

The club’s dedicated coaching team, Leanne Grieve, Alyson Thompson, Andy Thompson, Bev Ryan, Daryl Denman and our wonderful volunteers John Leys, Tom Mullen and Gill Homan, delivered weekly training sessions throughout the year. The focus remained on developing fundamental skills, teamwork, and a strong sense of fair play. In addition to regular training, several skill clinics and guest coaching sessions were held, giving juniors access to new techniques and a broader understanding of the game.

Wellington Point’s juniors participated in a variety of competitions in 2025, including the Qld State Junior Championships, and the inaugural annual club singles, consistency and pairs tournaments.

Notable achievements included:

  • Hunter Crumblin winning the Under-18 Singles title and R/U Novice Singles.
  • Enzo Greco being the youngest player ever in our club to play in a winning Div 9 team.
  • Ten juniors played in the club’s inaugural club championships.

These results reflect the dedication of the players and the effectiveness of the club’s coaching program.

In 2025, the juniors took part in community events, including our School Holiday Programs, and “Belmont’s Fun Family Bowls Day” to promote junior bowls.

These events helped foster a strong sense of camaraderie and club pride, involving juniors, their families, and senior members. The Family Fun Day was a particular highlight, with juniors running demonstration games and introducing new families to the sport.

As a club, we are also involved with the Wellington Point Primary School year-six students, who will be coming every term to learn our game. As a feeder school hopefully we will see a growth in our Juniors.

The future of bowls at Wellington Point looks bright, with a growing and enthusiastic group of juniors ready to take the sport forward. Plans for 2026 include introducing a junior leadership program, expanding competition opportunities, and further enhancing coaching resources. We look forward to another successful year and the continued development of our young bowlers.
