Congratulations are in order for the Wynnum Manly Juniors rugby league team, which recently made the trek to St George for a five-day football carnival, and remained undefeated.
Under the guidance of coaches Mark Tombs, Aaron Smith, and Anthony McLeod, the team trained rigorously twice a week for two months to prepare for the carnival.
Their hard work paid off. They played tough, smart, and resilient football throughout the carnival, winning all nine of their matches and earning the prestigious title of U35kg Champions for 2024.
The camaraderie and teamwork displayed by the players were genuinely inspiring.
The team’s “never leave a mate behind” attitude and positive spirit were evident in every game they played. Special mentions go to Zac, Sal, and Quentin, who were selected for the East (City) side and maintained their high standards throughout the carnival.
Individual accolades were also awarded to standout players. Elissi was named the best back, Braith the best forward, and Zayne the most improved player. The crowning achievement was for Leon, the fullback, named Player of the Carnival.
The team’s success at St George has filled the Wynnum Manly community with pride. As the boys return to club football, they are eager to apply what they’ve learned going forward.
