Sheldon College has been selected as a Tennis Australia National Talent Hub, joining an elite group of programs across the country recognised for their outstanding commitment to junior player development. In what is a rare distinction among schools, Sheldon College is the only school-based Talent Hub in Greater Brisbane, and one of only three school-based Talent Hubs nation-wide.
This exciting development affirms the College’s strategic investment in tennis and junior athlete development. Backed by Tennis Australia, the designation includes direct funding for the next two years to accelerate the growth of the program and provide additional development opportunities for aspiring players.
“This recognition not only reflects the great work of our coaching team but also validates our approach to long-term athlete development and the strong partnerships we’ve built within the industry,” said Sheldon College principal Ms Kate Mortimer.
The program’s success has also opened up international opportunities. Head Coach Jake Alchin has been selected to take part in a Tennis Australia-funded trip to Italy in September, where he will study global best practice in talent development.
A recent visit by Tennis Australia representatives praised the College’s commitment, with feedback highlighting its clear player pathway, high-quality coaching, regular match play opportunities for younger players, and an integrated strength and conditioning program. The feedback also commended the College’s use of Tennis Australia’s ‘Play to Learn’ philosophy and its plans to further embed athletic development touchpoints across all levels.
Sheldon College looks forward to working closely with Tennis Australia to help shape the future of Australian tennis. This recognition reflects the high standards we set across all areas of our College, and affirms our commitment to supporting students in achieving their extraordinary — both on the court and beyond.
