The Wynnum Manly Seagulls officially launched their 2026 QRL season on Friday, February 27, bringing together players, staff, sponsors and supporters in a strong show of unity ahead of what the club hopes will be a successful year in their 75th anniversary.

Held at the Wynnum Golf Club, the launch celebrated the Seagulls’ proud history while outlining the vision for the season ahead.

The Seagulls CEO, Wayne Weekes, spoke about the importance of community support and the continued growth of rugby league in the Wynnum Manly region.

Sponsors and community partners were acknowledged for their ongoing support, with club representatives reinforcing the vital role of local businesses and supporters in the Seagulls’ success on and off the field.

Players were introduced to those in attendance, with new recruits and returning stars alike eager to get the season underway. The HostPlus Cup head coach, Mathew Head, also shared their excitement about the squad’s preseason preparation, highlighting the commitment and effort of the playing group in the months leading into the competition.

A key focus of the evening was Seagulls captain Brendan Frei, who will once again lead the side in 2026. Frei has become one of the club’s most respected leaders, known for his work ethic, professionalism and passion for the jersey. As captain, he has earned the trust of teammates and coaches alike, setting the standard through both his performances and leadership around the club. Frei spoke at the launch about the pride he feels representing Wynnum Manly and the responsibility that comes with leading the team. He also emphasised the importance of connection with the local community and the role supporters play in driving the team forward throughout the season.
