The Wynnum-Manly Seagulls’ BMD Premiership squad brought elite women’s rugby league to Hervey Bay last month, highlighting the depth of female talent across Queensland during their Round 5 clash.
The trip north marked the second consecutive year the Seagulls have played at Ralph Stafford Park, with the carnival now a key event on the community calendar.
After hosting the Queensland Maroons Women’s team in May, Hervey Bay was eager to welcome more top-level action to the Fraser Coast.
Friday set the tone for the weekend, with an open captain’s run from the Wynnum-Manly women’s squad followed by an NRL clinic, connecting aspiring players with leading athletes and coaches.
Mini Mods lit up Ralph Stafford Park on Saturday, before the Seagulls capped the day in style, defeating the Western Clydesdales 28-6 for their first win of the season.
Sunday turned the spotlight to the future of the game, with representative fixtures across the Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age groups showcasing emerging talent. Off the field, players spent the afternoon taking part in educational sessions exploring the broader opportunities within rugby league.
The Wynnum-Manly Seagulls’ Hervey Bay fixture continues to bridge the gap between grassroots rugby league and Queensland’s premier women’s competition, creating opportunities for the next wave of players.
