FROM BCLS

Bayside Community Legal Service (BCLS) will be celebrating its 30th birthday this year. To celebrate this special occasion, the organisation is hosting a 30th birthday celebration dinner on Thursday, November 10.

Founded in 1992 and registered in April 1993 as an incorporated association, BCLS has a rich and long history of delivering legal help and assistance to the bayside community. After 30 years, BCLS remains the premium generalist community legal service provider in the bayside region.

BCLS is very much a grassroots community organisation and a unique community legal centre. BCLS’ focus is assisting the vulnerable and disadvantaged residents of the bayside region, including Wynnum, Manly, Capalaba, Cleveland and the southern Moreton Bay Islands. The BCLS office is based in Wynnum at the Wynnum Community Centre.

As the smallest funded Queensland CLC, the organisation punches way above its weight, thanks to the large volunteer cohort of eighty-plus solicitors, barristers, mediators and law students, supported by two part-time employed solicitors and a part-time coordinator.

BCLS provides a one-of-a-kind broad-based facilitated mediation service (used by other community legal centres, the courts and the community). Whilst BCLS is a “generalist” legal service provider, the skill base of our volunteers enables us to provide specialised legal services across all areas of family law, domestic and family violence, child protection, neighbourhood disputes, and criminal and civil law matters.

If you would like to discuss organising an appointment for free legal advice or mediation, please contact the office at (07) 3162 3282 Monday to Thursday. You can also enquire online at https://bcls.org.au/contact-us/.
