Are you ready to improve your acting skills? Mates Theatre Genesis Inc. (MATES), the Redlands’ longest running community theatre group, is hosting a series of acting workshops in the latter half of 2022.

Back by popular demand, theatre performer and Feldenkrais practitioner Anna Yen will facilitate the Play Moves – Movement for Performance workshop on June 25.

The workshop will teach participants how to move more freely on stage and explore what it means to be present and in ‘complicity’ with other performers. Yen will introduce sequences from the Feldenkrais method, designed to heighten self-perception and rediscover an organic sense of movement with more ease and less tension.

On July 9, Zoe Houghton will lead a workshop on the Principles of Stanislavski. The Stanislavski acting method, developed by Russian theatre practitioner Konstantin Stanislavski, is one of the most popular acting techniques used by actors worldwide. Participants will learn how to gain ‘emotional truth’ in acting. Houghton has been a core tutor for NIDA’s open programs for nearly 20 years.

Improvisation can strike fear into the heart of many performers, yet it is a powerful and essential tool in any actor’s tool belt. Popular Brisbane actor Anne Pensalfini will host an Improvisation workshop on September 10. Pensalfini has over 20 years’ experience in improvisational comedy and has taught at Griffith University and the University of Qld.

Workshops are suitable for all levels of experience and will be held at the Birkdale School of Arts Hall, 101 Birkdale Rd, Birkdale.
