FROM THE WATERLOO BAY LEISURE CENTRE

The Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre, located at 241 Tingal Road, Wynnum, reopens on Monday 10th January 2022.

This busy community centre offers many social activities and gatherings, exercise classes, concerts, markets, venue hire and much more. Please contact the centre and speak to one of our volunteers who are always happy to provide details of activities offered.

The centre welcomes new members and we encourage everyone to enjoy the many activities offered and enjoy the friendship of fellow patrons.

ACTIVITIES include needlecraft, knitting, quilting, parchment, leatherwork, painting and art, table tennis, and indoor bowls, and a library on site.

VENUE HIRE is available for special celebrations, functions and gatherings. The auditorium caters for large groups of up to 230 people. The Shire Clerk’s Cottage is available for wedding ceremonies and offers a picturesque setting for photographs.

CONCERTS are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month and showcase a variety of entertainers. Concerts will resume in February 2022 so save the dates of 8th and 22nd February. Doors open at 9.30am for morning tea and the concert commences at 10.15am. A two-course lunch is served after the concert. Bookings are essential by phoning the centre on 3396 9488.

HIGH TEAS are offered on Wednesday mornings for groups of 10 or more. Bookings are essential.

CANTEEN is open for purchase of refreshments, tea, coffee, scones and baked goods. Catering is available on request.

MARKETS are held throughout the year in the grounds of the Shire Clerk’s Cottage. The first market for 2022 is Saturday 19th March. Over 70 stalls will showcase the goods of many local talented artists and craftspeople. Devonshire teas are served on the verandah of the cottage on market days.

NEW VOLUNTEERS are welcome to join the wonderful team that keep the centre operating. The centre is run entirely by volunteers. Some of the areas we welcome new volunteers include front of office, administration, IT and website support, canteen, function set up and serving of meals, and building and gardening maintenance.

We look forward to the continued support of the community in attending the centre. We wish everyone a Happy New Year ahead.
